I'm doing this on the basis of food can be touched, therefore it's material culture. :)

Sweet tea. As in pre-sweetened iced tea served regularly in restaurants and homes.

Fried catfish.

Ante-bellum plantation homes.

Confederate graveyards with the battle flag fluttering on all the graves (even the Union ones...)

Mardi Gras beads and doubloons (New Orleans is part of the Deep South, however much they'd like to deny it and it's not the only place in the South to celebrate Mardi Gras. I know Mardi Gras or a variant is celebrated in various places around the world, but the American South's version is unique, as, I suspect, are all the others.)

Pecan pie. (Am I hungry or something?)

White sheets and burning crosses? Oh, wait, they have those in Indiana too.

Magnolias.

Graceland. The home of Elvis is quintessentially Southern. Trust me.

Stills. You laugh - you'd be surprised how many people produce their own "home brew" several hundred yards away from the house in the woods by the tree stand they use for deer-hunting and drinking.

Fried Green Tomatoes. (Sorry, I was trying to stay away from food...)
