It depends:(I did)
Do you understand gun safety?
Do you understand the seriousness of owning a gun?
Are you a responsible individual and understand that firearms are not toys?
If you understand that firearms are not toys, can you stick to that?
For what reason do you want one?

Well, as long as your folks are responsible and teach you gun safety and responsibility, I think it's a great idea. I learned to shoot from my Dad when I was 6, he taught me to respect the rifle as a tool that can be alot of fun if used responsibly, and could KILL someone if used irresponsibly. If you are taught well, and use it under responsible supervision, then yes, I think you should. My one recommendation would be to realize that not all adults are responsible, and if your supervision is lax at all, don't use it, don't do it, find a better teacher, be careful of everyone around you. My Grandmother killed a black Bear with a 22 when she was 14, it can and will kill a person.

You are pretty young. Ask your parents if you can join the Junior NRA (National Rifle Association) and learn how to safely use firearms. They may want you to wait until you are older before they actually let you have one of your own. In the mean time maybe they will let you own a BB gun or air rifle and only use it with their supervision.

It depends on what you want it for, and how mature you would be about taking care of it. Do you know never to point a gun at anyone, even if it is considered unloaded? More 'unloaded' guns have killed people than most people realize. Accidents happen all the time.
I used to love to target practice with mine. I would ask for a single-shot, because it is a good gun for a beginner. Easier to know it is empty, you still treat it with respect, and you are more apt to learn to shoot better faster, because you make your shots count, since you have to reload again. Then later, you could get a semi-automatic.

At ten years old I can't imagine why you would need anything more than a bb gun, and even that you should not have until after you have completed a hunter's safety course. Guns are not toys. You need to learn how to use them safely and responsibly.

22 is great to get started with and fun to target practice with. My seven year old granddaughter has used one -- with supervision.

I think kids can be just as responsible as adults with guns, but ONLY if you are taught gun safety and you know what you are doing. Also, you should always have parental supervision.

I think that is going to depend upon how trustworthy and mature your parents think you are. Do you do your chores, homework, help out around the house ?
