There has to be a place to save my option but it never takes it always defaults back to icons instead of list.

Are you on a MAC or PC?

Open "My Computer", click the "Tools" menu, click "Views", and scroll down to the bottom and check the box that says "Remember each folder's view setting".
If it's already checked then I cant help you anymore

In MS Windows XP, when in any folder , you have your choice of icons, thumbnails,icons, list, details.... Try Details or list . see if that works...

Are you the 'Administrator' of the computer?

If not then your account may be set-up to not accept system changes.
