Let me just ask you right now..Are you against Taxation with the right to VOTE. I am. So why do teenagers who work and in some cases help their family survive pay taxes to a country they have NO say to where or what happens to their taxes they pay. Some will argue that it's only for a few years..or they only pay a few hundred dollars per year etc..BUT it's their money and they have NO VOTE. This country was founded on this principle "Taxation with Represenation" I'd love to hear your thought's on this crime happening to an estimated 8 BILLION dollars a year that has NO SAY!

Tell me where I'm wrong

It's a good point, but....
I guess the Dept. of Labor sees working before 18 as a privelege,
not a right or a necessity. In exchange for permitting you to earn what they THINK is your own money, they require you to pay tax on it. I think you're right though, they should'nt tax you if you can't vote, but look at it like this: the tax you pay benefits you somewhat. Don't you get to drive on the roads? Aren't you entitled to police service/protection? Know anyone who goes to a public school? All these things are paid for with tax dollars.

OK, you're wrong.

Oh, you wanted a debate.

But, OK, you could take your argument to it's ludicrous extension and then anyone who pays taxes should vote. That includes criminals, children under the age of 12 and non-citizens. I'm not saying that your point is invalid, but there are many groups other than teenagers who pay taxes but do not vote for various legal reasons.

I'm not saying that the voting age shouldn't be lowered, but if it is it should be to encourage civic participation by our youth, not because of taxation without representation.

You're absolutely correct, but how long ago was this country founded, 230 years ago? Even in the late 18th century, children worked the fields and didn't get to vote. I didn't hear them complain. Just be happy our chldren are not working for slave labor in sweat shops. It could be worse.

Besides, I'm not so sure I want to give ALL minors the right to vote. Some are educated, but most are not. I'm not sure I want Carson Daly as the next president.

Gore would have been elected by a landslide in 2000 and again for 2008 if this block could vote. They will inherit the earth more so than this old, Republican man (me). But I am still young enough to learn by my mistakes. Give them the vote!

With rights and privileges come responsibility. As a minor you are your parents responsibility and as such they carry the burden of your safety, welfare and the joy of your existence. They also represent you legally therefore you are represented. So pay Uncle Sam ore else.

It doesn't really bother me. That 8 billion certainly helps fund many programs in this country, so I support it by that virtue alone.
