As much as I like Odysseus, I would have to go with his wife. Penelope, for twenty years, raised her son alone, held off insistent suitors who were only after the kingdom, and remained true to the one man she "loved" or at least respected. For a woman, even a married one, in Mycenaean society that in itself is a huge accomplishment.

Penelope because her burdern was never lifted in the 20 years Odysseus was away. in the odyssesy, Odysseus, man of many wiles, has a 9 year break in his travels when he was shipwrecked with Calypso. Penelope never had a vacation from her troubles from rasing her son to fighting off hordes of suitors only intrested in what she represented and not her. It is intersting to note in the Odyssesy Odysseus completely negelcts to mention Calypso, Circe, Hecuba or anyone else who happened to catch his eye on his travels. (though for the record I don't think he slept with Hecuba)

Actually by the standards of their own myth, neither was a hero.
Heroes by defination had one mortal and on divine parent.
Neither Odysseus nor Penelope fit the mold.
