It's actually a song about a composite of former lovers, most notably Warren Beatty. Yes it is by Carly Simon, not Carole King

Carly Simon sang that song Your So Vain, she had been
married to James Taylor but was divorced. This song was about
one of her old boyfriends though, Warren Beatty. In those days ,
Warren was a real Charmer and Ladies Man. Warren is the
brother of Actress Shirley Mclaine. I Think Warren must have lost
count on all the women that he had taken out.
He is now married to Annette Benning.
