File 13 is actually an old WWII Army Signal Corps designation for shredding classified documents.

Ive never heard file 13. We have always called it the circular or the round file.

B is for bin.

it come from the old filing cabinet style of filing, where you had 12 files in each drawer? so you had files 1-12 and file 13 became the bin.. and its been so since about the 50's

I've heard "file 13" before, so it's not just your family. I think it's b/c 13 is supposed to be an unlucky number.

I believe it's from 1984 by George Orwell, it is 1984 isn't it and not another year? I'm confused, anyway I think it's from that.
