Well, by now you have sucked all the water out of the bottom of your tank. Other then running it out of gas, there isn't much harm in doing it. The answer about not letting it go under 1/4 of a tank is to keep the engine from being fouled by the impurities and waters that settle to the bottom. If you have been running it for any time on a low tank (putting in just enough to get by) you have (as I said) probably already sucked that crap through the system. You'll need to change the fuel filters pretty soon, by the way.

Not until you run out of gas and have to leave the car on the side of the road where it can get hit or stripped.
The comments about picking up dirt and debri from the bottom of the tank, and possible condensation issues are all correct, but you also get better mileage with less weight in the car.

When the tank is almost empty the crud that accumulates in the bottom is more likely to be picked up and pumped thru the system. But with good filtering it shouldn't cause a problem. Not a good habit though, unless you really change those fuel filters a lot.

Actually the lower your gas level the more condensation can contaminate your tank. If you are driving a diesel Algae forms in tank just like swimming pool. If your car is not a diesel I wouldn't worry about it. I am a master tech and my wife calls the low fuel light the GARY light because it is always on.

Yes. It can damage the fuel pump.
In cold weather it also allows condensation to form on the inside walls of your gas tank.....so you should keep it at least half full especially in the winter during cold weather.

I don't know for sure, but I've been told that the sediments on the bottom of the tank will end up in your injectors. So I try not to let the gas in my tank go below 1/4.

Running the car on empty is very bad for electric fuel pumps. It causes the pump to run hot causing pemature failure and can lead to stopped up filters as well.

Yeah, you have no Gas, this is harmful for the engine, and dangerous as you could kill the engine and the car, or have the engine blow form fumes entering the tank. Just fill up.
