Have you ever tried (respectfully) to find out why they want you to do certain things? Not complaining or with a bad attitude but just to find out what their reasoning is? A lot of times parents ask kids to do things because they feel its in their child's best interests. However, they often leave out communicating this to their kids and just go with the "because I said so" deal. A conversation that is respectful of their position may give you the opportunity to tell them how you feel and maybe work out a compromise.

Hey, I have had a similar situation like you boy. I recently came from Israel, and immigrated to the states. They were the really religious family, hasidic Jewish, which was a total torture. They were the one to sponsor me, and I didn't have any choice but to follow their fanatic customes. I couldn't stand it at all, and eventually got kicked out of the house.

I found my way through this life, but I am not sure if your family is that strict on you and if you have alternatives in your life. If this is unbearable, I would look for some alternative. If you don't have any choice, try to explain them that you can't and don't want to maintain this religion. By the way, what kind of religion are you ?

Good luck.
Alina.
