2+2 is the most psychologically settling mathematical question to the human mind. The human mind does not like 1+1, for some odd reason. 2+2 seems more simple somehow.

Note how instead of asking 1+1, you ask 2+2. Why is that? It's because humans like 2+2. It's like symmetry. Humans seem to find symmetry settling somehow. We like evenness. 1+1 or 3+3 just doesn't cut it.
