First I wear a seat belt because I'm an adult and I'm 100% in favor of mandatory CHILD restraints, but 100% AGAINST government FORCING me wear wear a seat belt or I have to give them $100 per violation..as I just got in my DRIVEWAY pulling my car back..I just pulled my car back to make room and I got NAILED. As a FULL grown adult I think I'm capable of making that choice for ME. When they passed the law here in my State my car insurance still went up so it's not about that...and I'm old enough to know my government doesn't give a darn about me other than taxes I pay. We need to wake up and see this: Government Save me from Myself laws. This is nothing but a hidden tax that they can justify by saying they want to help me

Now tell me where I'm wrong!

Um... I'm pretty sure they can't ticket you in your own driveway as it's not a public roadway. You can DEFINTELY contest the violation on that grounds if it really was in your driveway. It's not actually illegal to let your 5-year-old drive the car down the driveway if you want to, let alone to not wear a seatbelt.

That said, if you're not wearing a seatbelt and you get in an accident your dead body could hit another car when it flies out the windshield, and cause a second accident. Besides, if it does all come down to money, for people who don't have health insurance, the state gets stuck with the ER bill after a car accident, so it's in the state's best financial interest to make that bill as small as possible.

Seriously, though, I don't see how it could seriously hurt anyone but yourself and those who care about you if you're not wearing a seatbelt, and I'm all for letting morons do the species a favor by removing themselves from the gene pool, so why not let people decide for themselves if they're going to wear a seatbelt. Not that not wearing a seatbelt is really indicative of the decision-making skills that distinguish an adult from a child. After all, the point of requiring childen to wear seatbelts is that they don't have the decision-making skills to make a good choice, and doesn't chosing not to wear a seatbelt demonstrate that same lack of ability to make responsible choices?

Ford motor company pioneered seat belt research, and found that they do save lives. Your insurance company won't pay your medical bills if it is found that you didn't have a seatbelt on. If you are in an accident, and ejected from your car, because you didn't have a seatbelt on, and you land on my car, if you aren't killed, I would get out of my car and probably kick you in the head. You are right though, you should have the choice, as long as you are willing to suffer the consequences. While we are at it, lets repeal all of the helmet laws for motorcycle riders. Ben knows what the repercussions from not wearing a helmet are. Have you ever seen a skiull cracked open and brain matter oozing onto the pavement?
Sorry to hear that you got a ticket in your own drive-way. Thats private property and I don't think you can legally be fined for a moving violation on private property. Are you sure you didn't drive onto the roadway? Either way, I would fight that ticket.

I always figured that w/out national health care you at least had a degree more freedom than Socialist countries that make you belt up but not anymore it seems. So if you don't get health care in return for loss of liberty what do you get? And why does the idiot lawyer think you would do anymore damage to anyone else w/out a belt? It has been demonstrated that people drive more dangerously when belted up because it makes them sub-conciously over confident so the opposite is true.

I'm a firm believer in letting people go to hell their own way, as long as they don't expect me to pay for it.

I have no problem with people not wearing seatbelts, or motorcyclists not wearing helmets as long as they pay into a special insurance fund. This money, instead of taxes, would cover the cost of treating their injuries, and provide long-term care when they splatter themselves all over the pavement or the inside of a car. You want to turn yourself into a turnip and spend the rest of your life eating from and pissing into tubes, be my guest, just don't ask my tax dollars to support you.

As the law is now, it's not a hidden tax. You only pay if you violate the law.

You have the right to be stupid HOWEVER you don't have the right to drive an automobile on a public highway. That is a privilege granted by the state which means they can establish rules that you must comply with if you want a license.

As long as the right to be stupid includes the responsibility of paying for the resulting damages to yourself or others OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET, and not by us or your insurance company, which is just us in a different way than by taxes.

i think the seat belt law is a good one. before it was pasted my dad never where his seat belt. one day he had a feeling and put it on and it was a good thing he did. that day he hit ice and rolled his truck down a hill. that seat belt saved his life. a seat belt saved my sisters life when someone ran a red light and hit her head on too. there is nothing wrong with this law and it's there to protect us. the law doesn't want to be cleaning up body parts off the highway because u didn't have ur seat belt on, and i for one don't want to see ur body parts all over the road. i have lost many of high school friends because they didn't have there seat belts on.

you are completely correct, the government does not need to tell us what to do,but at the same time you should be aware of concequences of a crash,im not saying i favor any seatbelt or helmet law for that matter,i think its all about busting people who dont so the state makes more money.

In a way I agree with you:

You cannot make everything idiot proof!

And:( not meaning you)

You cannot protect stupid people from themselves!

There has to be a limit and getting nailed in your driveway is taking things a little too far. Unfortunately, we cannot legislate common sense with a law when it is passed.

Did you go to court to fight it??

You have the right to be stupid. By the look at this question bragging about your deathwish I see you're taking full advantage of it.

Go ahead and get killed in a car accident. I wonder if your family will miss you?
