Okay my husband and I have been wondering about the anatomy of the rooster. We have seen the rooster jump on the chicken but how does the egg get fertilized? Nobody we have asked seems to know.

Yes, a rooster has a penis. It is under a tiny flap of skin, it is not exposed, as with a lot of other animals.
A hen will develope a "clutch" of eggs internally and lay them WITHOUT the assistance of a rooster.
The rooster only fertilize the eggs (so baby chickens will develope) otherwise all the eggs are infertile.
The clutch (anywhere from 9 to 14) releases an egg about every 24 hours.
The egg starts out with a soft shell that drys and hardens very quickly.
After all the eggs from a clutch is laid, the hen usually has a break/rest of several days between the development of another clutch.

yes, every male has one. If a rooster didn't have one the hens wouldn't be able to make eggs.

Yes, they do. But it's usually not as visible as on other species. I believe it is usually hidden in what is called a "vent." When poultry are hatched from eggs, they have to be sexed. This involves opening the vent to see what "private parts" they have. Their beaks are referred to as "peckers"...not to be confused with the subject of your question!!
