Reasons why: 1.) A single governor, especially Arnold, can't figure out how to run the whole state. 2.) More senatorial seats might counter the efforts of everyone's favorite reps - Barbara and Nancy. 3.) California has a monopoly on electoral votes that almost always swings blue. Poor Republicans don't have a chance.

Perhaps, but it will never happen. Under the U.S. Constitution, no state can be created by dividing territory of existing states.

(West Virginia doesn't count because when it was created Virginia was in rebellion and, therefore, not a state.)

Blue Note - you have no idea what your talking about. The most expensive real estate is in Southern California - Newport Beach and La Jolla to be exact - and dont generalize since we are not all fruitcakes. That's strictly the liberals in No. California.
Now on to answer the question...It might be a good idea to split into two different states - northern and southern California are very different economy and political wise - but it will never happen.

What! They'd get more Californian senators!

No it wouldn't.

You know, I think South Dakota (my state) should split into 41 different sections so we'd have 3 electoral votes each so us South Dakotans would have more sway than California, Texas, and New York combined!

I think it would. Right now it has too many presidental points. North is much more conservative and the south very much not so. I'd love to see the state split into 2.
