I think changing your name to your husband's name is old-fashioned. But my soon-to-be doesn't want me to keep my last name which so happens to be my 1st ex's last. The only reason I kept it is, I disliked my maiden last name. I understand why it bothers him. But I really don't want to go thru the name change game again. I'd like to be able to go by just my first name, like celebrities do. Is that possible?

yes one can change the name whenever want to...just have to file papers and pay a fee..along with changing all your other documents...social security card...drivers licsense and such... but in all honesty...when you love someone and get married ...that is supposed to be the grandest show of love there is...by taking your husbands name. so dont be too upset if he disagrees with you on this...

hell alot of us dont like our given names... but they were given to us for a reason...generation names...era names whatever....think of the poor souls that walk around like Dick Peters...or Buford or other odd names...but these people carry them ..why ...cuz they were chosen out of love.

hope you make the right choice for you ...good luck

No. But don't do it is ridiculous and stupid. Have you seen those tokio hotel fans putting misskaulitz and all that **** it looks horrible and ridiculous. Don't do it if you don't wanna look like an obsses fan. The only think Id would use is the name of a song but never a last name. But no is not illegal @ ami you are totally right lol

Let me get this straight, you currently have your ex-husbands last name because after divorcing him you didn't want to revert back to your maiden name because you dislike it AND now you want to reject your fiance's last name? What a way to start a new marriage? (if he still wants you after this nonsense). Having the same last name makes it clear that you guys are married, and there's no confusion about the kids last name if you have them with the new hubby. Get in-line with tradition and take your husbands last name and no --- going by a single name leads to all kinds of difficulties. (you still have to provide a last name when signing any contracts).

Umm, you could...be like Cher...but people might think you're a little weird for doing it...I'd just take his last name...it's just a name...no big deal...unless it's some humiliating name like off the Wedding Singer...Julia Gulia...then I would agree with you...yeah I know I have too much time on my hands

Yes you can keep your name and for about 15 bucks you can go to the court clerks office and change your name to whatever you want it to be.

It is totally up to you. Yes that is possible but i am not sure how to go about doing that. You would have to check into it and make sure your husband is okay with it .

You'll probably have to go to court and do a legal name change.
