Ok it's not really a movie but I've never been more scared in my entire life. A few years back the BBC in England aired a one off program on Halloween called Ghost Watch (Google BBC and Ghostwatch and you should find it) which was billed as a phone in reality type program about ghosts and the supernatural and it also featured a team live in a supposedly haunted house.

Everyone who watched assumed it was real life as that's how the show was done. It had well known chat show hosts (Michael Parkinson I think) and other celebrities of that ilk and a sort of Telethon type format (minus the fundraising obviously). It was quite interesting until things started going wrong. People phoned in asking for the show to re-examine the live footage that was just broadcast, at which point they notice things the public missed before, like shadows behind curtains, faces in windows and that sort of thing.

It was all done completely straight faced and it wasn't until near the end when it started getting ridiculous that you actually realised it was a put on, a cleverly constructed drama. I can tell you though that watching what you thought was a mass supernatural event unfold on live TV involving ghosts and posession and the like made a lot of people who watched it cack their pants and I also heard rumours afterwards that a few people ended up in mental homes etc although I don't know if thats true or not.

The BBC caught a hell of a lot of flack over that and the program has never been repeated. It's likely impossible to track down but if you can find it you should watch it. Although I'd imagine, like blair witch, once you know it's not true it won't be as effective....

For the freakiest movie, I would have to say Final Destination III. But for scariest, I'd have to say any of the Halloween movies with Michael Myers.
