Well, I am not quite in the same situation, but I know what it's like to be consumed w/guilt over what you eat and willing to do anything and I mean ANYTHING to lose weight.. purge issue here, eh? I yo-yo'd on weight for years (but thank god, I lost 75 pounds and kept it off 4 years now... marathon running, veggie diet did it.) I think you can't do much to 'help someone' with a weight issue, m'der.. They need motivation, they need to help themselves. If you had say talked her into going to the gym w/you (which is a step in the right direction, if she is inclined to work out that is) she might have still stuck off to throw up. I don't know how you CAN tell if someone's anorexic/bullemic because they eat like a horse then you think they have to go 'piddle' and pow..?! flush their troubles away. I hope someone else can write something more helpful. I think kids that live at home can fool their parents so don' tyou feel bad, K? She must not have changed drastically I am thinking if it went on for a year (you didn't notice..) With ME, 75 pounds IS a hell of a difference.. (I got flustered at too many people asking me "HOW did you do it?" type of ****.. (diet and exercise, how ya think?) sheesh. later- melancholia

I had a friend in high school... she was so skinny by the time I met her she looked like a walking skeleton... I tried to help her over and over... and I ever asked her mom why she wasn't helping her... (she could wear clothing from the girls children department...)... Her mother would simply say that "" eats all the time... she just scarfed down half a pizza!... I would then tell her... yea... but she throws up afterward... thats why she spends almost an hour in the bathroom after she eats... she also took laxitives to help curb her weight... I don't know whatever happened to her... but I do know that I wonder if anyone ever finally got thru to her before she died... Don't give up on your friend... and put the pressure on her parents...

We all like to believe that everything is OK with the ones we love. Even if that means we lie to ourselves. But now that you see it help her. Let her know you will be there for her no matter what.
