A swap meet is in essence what it says it is.
A meeting for people to swap stuff.
When I was growing up, we had a swap meet each weekend at a local drive in (yes, if you are young, you may not know what a drive in is, at least not in our city as they are mostly gone) and we went a few times as sellers and as buyers.
Imagine it as a garage sale, but on a massive scale and typically in a large open area like a park or a parking lot.
Some people will bring stuff that they no longer want and sell it out of a booth or even just out of the back of a truck or from a big blanket on the ground. Others will be there to sell lot items, or stuff that they have in bulk like doo-dads or knives or toys or clothing and even jewelry and electronics.
Here in Utah, these are typically held during the warmer months and it becomes a tradition to join the masses on a nice sunny day at the swap meet to find the items you are looking for.
These days though, with places like Craigslist and eBay and such, I think that many of these places are losing a lot of business. Many people go because it allows them to physically see the item they are purchasing, others because of nostalgia or even just because it's a reason to get outside in wonderful weather and socialize a bit.

For us, it's a car-related event with parts for sale spread everywhere. There is usually a car show to attend in the same area.

its a lot of little stores in tents, outdoors. usually in big parking lots.They sell all kinds of things like cloths, furniture, electronics, all that sort of things.
