Get that checked. Your brake pads are most likely worn down.

It definitely sounds to me like brake pads, the problem is exactly as you say, like 2 pieces of steal grinding against each other. They are coated with some type of oxide coating and when that rubs off, eeeeek, they start screaming. Don't trust the brakes just because you got it 6 months ago..............you should be able to turn your wheel hard one way and get a peek at the brake pads.

Sometimes replacement pads make a grinding noise but most likely you either have-
A. worn out pad (s) -a bad caliper causing premature pad wear
B. backing plate is rubbing
C. Bad bearing
Have it checked by a trustworthy mechanic.

It sounds like your brakes. They're either worn or not put on properly. You really need to get it checked out before you wind up needing new rotors as well.

sounds like the brake pads are worn out. if it's front wheel drive the noises may be coming from the cv axles.

IS it by any chance anti-lock brakes? They sound awful when fully engaged.
If not, is the car under warranty? Someone needs to look at it.

Take it back to where you bought it, or take it to a local shop and have them look at it, it's hard to say with out being their, would be just guessing, and that can get expensive, so have it checked out...for your safety.
