The United Nations doesn't "allow" the US to do anything. The United States is a sovereign nation that has the right in its own self-interest to make war with whoever it wants whenever it wants. The US has no treaty with the UN that would give the UN that kind of decision making power.

To specifically answer your question ... This is something that 99% of liberals don't understand. President Bush didn't "invade" Iraq "illegally". President Bush exercised his right under the cease-fire agreement from the first Gulf War to resume hostilities because the government of Saddam Hussein violated the terms of the original cease-fire. And in part he did so by harboring and sponsoring international terrorists and by seeking to devlop and purchase weapons of mass destruction.

Case closed. Next.

Much to his chagrin - Colin Powell made an appeal to the UN regarding the so-called weapons of mass destruction that Iraq was storing. We of course later found out that the weapons did Not in fact exist.

I really don't think the UN could have stopped our egotistical tyrannical President anyway. Little Bush was on a mission to finish Big Bush's unfinished business.

Don't get me wrong Saddam Hussein is an evil horror but the US should not perceive itself as the World Police or its high executioner.

Yes of course oil was also a carrot for this invasion. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all found out that our cars could run on Coke or Pepsi? Now that would be .... "THE REAL THING" !

the U. S. lied, no longer is mendacity. Expulsion from the UN could be counter to the purpose of the UN, this is to offer international locations with a potential to establish subjects with out resorting to conflict. sure, the equipment does not artwork alright, yet kicking international locations out for being warlike will make that purpose of peace even harder to acquire. conserving some variety of discussion open with a rogue state is extra clever than no communicate in any respect, is the thinking. And the actuality is, the U. S. performs too great a function in worldwide affairs to be disregarded. For extra clever or worse, this is actuality. Pretending in any different case will serve no sturdy purpose.

We invaded Iraq under UN direction because the UN Inspectors (a laughable thing) were not able to locate Saddam's WMD's (Weapons of Mass Destruction). The UN is corrupt, incompetent, and causes more problems that it solves just ask th Tutsi tribe in Rwanda (oh yeah you can't they are all dead)

The UN could not have stopped America from invading Iraq. Besides, they should have been all for it, since Saddam Hussein ignored the cease fire agreement of Gulf War I. Ask any Conservative, they will bang this point into your head until you bleed.
