I believe this is the right answer, tho, if it doesn't work this way then just turn around the 'slash' mark. Go to your start button and push. Next go to 'run' and select it. When it opens place the following in the open box; /chkdsk
For scandisk there are two ways to do it; windows and/or DOS, following is the way to do it;
SCANDISK.EXE and SCANDSKW.EXE, respectively.

Yes, dmc is correct where it is located. You most likely have a current version of Windows and it's not called scandisk or chkdisk with the newer versions. It's either Disk Defrag or Disk Cleanup depending on what you want to do. Sounds to me like you want Disk Defrag which basically cleans up on the disk of any errors, organizes it to provide you with more disk space allowing it to run a little quicker.

On a windows system, just open your "my computer" right click on any harddrive and select properties. Then choose the "Tools" tab and you will have the options to use Error-checking, Defragmentation, or Backup. You should really do the Error-checking before the defrag.

If using windows XP, there is no more scan disk. Go to "run" on the start up window and type the following;
chkdsk c:/f
Where "c" is the letter of the drive you want to check. The "/f" means to fix any errors.
