You have to clean the deck with deck wash (this takes a long time) and than the best stain I thinlk is Olympic
Wood Protector Waterproofing Sealant Red Cedar (TONE)
Every 2 to 3 years

I have tried deck cleaning solution and have found that oxyclean and a brush will do the same thing. Pressure washing pine boards with a high pressure washer will blow away some of the patina of the wood and raise the grain. So be careful. Using the cleaner will reduce the amount of pressure that will be necessary to clean the wood. good luck.

take these steps:
1. rent an industrial sander
2. sand the old varnish off (dont over sand)
3. rent a sprayer or buy some rollers (for the new stain)
4. stain
4. re-stain
5. put sealant over the stain

no way, pressure washing would not do the trick.
take each board off, plain it using a plainer (duh) you only have to plain 1 side. put the deck back together, THEN stain it with then layer with polyuerathane and probly re-layer it a week later. make sure u do this while NOT in the rainy seasonnnnnnnn.

I would go to www.homedepot.com and check out their do-it-yourself guides. They seem to know what they are talkin about.
