What fun will that be? I think that the -5 points was to keep some people from asking off the wall questions. But, it hasn't worked and I see your point. Thumbs up is a good idea. How does this sound:
GOOD questions should be rewarded as +5 points for staying within the community guidelines.
BAD questions that are not within the guidelines should have the
-5 points taken.

no, i don't think asking questions deserves points. but i think increasing the points to pay when asking a question is important to improve the quality of questions.
