The grass is always greener on the other side. Sometimes we take what we have for granted. Did you ever hear the expression "You don't know what you have until it's gone"? It's true. Then, you get what you thought you wanted, and you want what you had.

Its a multi component process. Part of our drive for things we desire, such as new dates and relationships, comes from an actual physiological reward that our brain produces while we are enjoying the early stages of a new courtship or romance. There are elevated levels of a certain type of hormone or neurtransmitter than increases pleasureable feelings during this time. The biological reason for this would be to perpetuate diversity in pairings of individuals within the population. There was a university that did a study on this. The other components are the psychological components which are varied depending on person and situation.

that's a good question. My recently ex-boyfriend does this to me.When we are together it is great for about 6 months, then he decides, I'm not what he wants. He sees another girl, then I look good again. I have gone through this 3 times w/him, and I wish I knew the answer. I know what I want, someone who doesn't play the "come here,no get away game". I hope u aren't doing that to someone, cause if they are in love with you, you are tearing their heart to pieces!

Because what people have never seems interesting enough to them till they get to the "greener side" then they realize what they had in the first place... It's a very dumb cycle for the people that don't appreciate and cherish what they have...

If anyone can answer that one, that person understands human nature completely.
I think that the answer could be that human beings like achievement. What we have has already been achieved, so it becomes boring. If you don't have it..... hmmmm I MUST have it. That gave origin to the sayings: "THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE" -and- "THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT IS THE BEST FRUIT"

Because trying to get what we cannot have is almost like a game for us and we try to keep trying to reach our goal to get what we want and the moment we have it we don't want it anymore because the fun isn't in it anymore. Get what I'm saying?

It's a psychological thing. All that's easily available does not seem attractive, or not for a long time...

We want what we can't have BECAUSE we have what we don't want. Therefore, we should get what we do want so we won't want what we don't have, since we will already have it.
