Prayer is communication, not worship.
There is no need for Catholics to kneel to pray to a saint although some may choose to kneel to ask for prayers out of respect and supplication.
In the original Greek New Testament, there are two ways that one person can kneel in front of another.
In Mark 1:40, a leper comes to Jesus and begs Him for help. He falls to his knees before Him and says, "If you will, you can make me clean". The leper does not know who Jesus is only what He might do. This is not an act of adoration, but rather a supplication expressed fervently in bodily form. This is the Greek word gonypetein, the gesture of falling to one's knees before another, which is described four times in the Gospels (Mark 1:40; 10:17; Matthew 17:14; 27:29).
The Greek word for adoration on one's knees is proskynein. This word occurs eleven times in Saint John's Gospel, of which nine occurrences are found in Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman by Jacob's well (John 4:19-24). This conversation is entirely devoted to the theme of worship, and it is indisputable that here, as elsewhere in Saint John's Gospel, the word always has the meaning of "worship.”
Catholics kneel in worship to God.
Catholics kneel in respect and supplication to anyone we love and respect. We also do this when we propose marriage.
The Pope has written a nice paper on the theology of kneeling: http://www.adoremus.org/1102TheologyKneel.html
With love in Christ.

Ok, reading the other answers I understand what your question is ... You're wondering about the Saints and why Catholics have statues and picture of them.
Further, You have been informed that we Catholics carry pictures of the Saints and other religious stuff to remind of us Catholics of the Catholic family.
Although you may not "get on your knees" and "pray" to your family memebers, you probably do have a hierarchy within the family ... It is probably appropriate for you to help you grandparents to grave sites to visit their friends and family who have died ... or if you've lost a family member, don't you pay respect to that deceased family member???
In daily living ... isn't it normal to bend down to small kids to talk to them? Hold childreens hands across the street? Open the door for women? As long as I have a body that is fully functioning (thanks for the great body God!!!) ... I plan to use it ... kneel and pray where the situation is positive!!!
We have traditions that we do to remember these individuals ... and in our remember of these individuals (who were a gift from God himself) we strive to become better Christians in the process.
I'm sorry if you don't have a family and friends that you cherrished (living and dead) ... for when you see how you loving treat your family and friends, you will see how us Catholics love.
I guess your message is aiming to spit on us and to laugh at us, but since we have the love of God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Apostles, all the Saints, and all those who've died before us (and those to come) ... it doesn't really matter if you spit and laugh because we are Catholic and have countless people to love us and heal our wounds from your jealous actions.
However, I do hope you receive the peace and love we have ... Peace be with you.

We kneel to pray, ask, beseech and to give thanks for answered prayers and to accept blessings. We kneel to accept communion.
Having said that, being a lapsed Catholic, I do believe that we live many lives and don't reach the light (Enlightenment) until we worked off our Karma; have learned from our mistakes and atoned for the harm we done others.
It is good to have pictures of those loved ones who have passed on to their next lives. Some may think it idolatry, NOT. Because your suffering will pass in time, and you will look at them, smile, and remember them with only love.

Well, that's a first. Usually people ask for pictures of loved ones like babies and spouses and such. I've never heard of this practice. Odd.
I'm starting to think you're making stuff up out of your fear, ignorance and misunderstanding. But I could be wrong.

Why are you making this statement. Doesn't FAMILY mean anything to you????? Relationships should be important to us all. Why don't you get your facts straight. Are you even a Christian, because, if you claim to be, SHAME ON YOU, on behalf of all Christians (Catholic and Protestant)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that you are a very rude person. You are divisive and the Bible says we are to have NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU! (DIVISIVE PEOPLE) pERHAPS THAT IS WHY YOU ARER NOT HEARING FROM MANY.

between the female Saints stated prayer could be like one pal chatting with a unique pal. between the male Saints stated that the most appropriate prayer replaced into at the same time as one prays unaware they are praying. a lot of human beings pray the Rosary in mattress at evening merely in the previous they bypass to sleep and also in the previous they get away from mattress in morning at the same time as they wide awake.

If you prayed to pictures of people, someone would put you in a looney bin. Maybe they should anyway! People pray next to statues because statues are in churches and people pray in churches! Duh! It doesn't take a brainiac to figure that one out. You're not only a jerk, you're a dumb ***!
