Hey I'm 18, I was considering adding this to my resume:
•eBay Seller, Since October 6th, 2001
Over 400 transactions, 99% positive feedback. Created and managed auctions and sales for over five years.
What do you think? Should I add it? Change it? Leave it off?

P.S.:
Since I'm only 18 I don't have much work experience which is why I thought I should add it on.
Maybe I should change it to "Online Sales" or something like that.
Also, the position I would be applying for is a sales associate.
Thanks.

If you are lacking in other experience, it can be beneficial.
It is especially beneficial that you have such high positive feedback and have made over 400 transactions.
By the way- make sure when you do create your resume that you keep it at one page. Some employers may accept up to two pages, but unless you have some amazing credentials that NEED to be on there, it is advised that you stick to one.
I hope this is helpful and good luck on your job search!

I most certainly think that you should add it to your resume, and of course you should customize what you've done on eBay to fit your upcoming position. You can explain how you have been able to sell so well on eBay, how you learned from the ground up how to be a fantastic seller, how you determined what it was that appealed to each individual customer, and what skills you gained/used while using eBay. I would say that eBay is the worlds largest online marketplace and it should count for quite a bit on your resume. Hope that this helps. Love, as always, Sebastian

I would leave it off the resume. It's not really considered a job, persay, no matter how YOU might feel about it. However, if you've not had a job, the interviewer may ask you what you've been doing with your time. This would be the time to mention it. Tell them that you became a seller on eBay and made over 400 transactions in (x) amount of time. That's the time to brag about yourself.

Most bigger companies now use an automated program to extract skills from your resume. If you describe the skill it takes to manage auctions, then yes. If you are trying to show the time gap of work history, yes. But just showing that alone, does not show any "skills" per se and would not have any advantage I would try to expand the knowledge or skills managing an auction entails. From computer literacy to financial. :o)

Since you've been doing it for a long time, I would include that on your resume. May want to add independent to eBay seller title to indicate that you've done this all yourself. Also, when you put years of experience you don't need the exact date, just the year.

leave it off. that's not really considered a JOB. it's more a at home activity. Besides, if you knew someone was BIG on eBay, don't you think they would be on it all day at work. checking up on auctions and such? if it's a sales position then maybe but otherwise I'd leave it off.

Well, usually I don't think that would really help but 400+ transactions with 99% positive feedback sounds good. It'll boost your credentials.

You can never know how some people will react to that, a lot of people have a negative image of EBay, they might take you for something you're not. I'd leave it off, it's best to play on the safe side.

Don't mention E-Bay.
Instead, say something about managing a small independent business that buys and sells goods at auction.
