I've been guilty of the same thing. It crossed the line when I cursed at a family function. It's disrespectful, especially since he knows it makes you uncomfortable. The only time cursing can be excused is when a guy, walking barefoot in his den the other day accidently walks right into the corner lamp table and very nearly tears off a toe nail. Yep, it happened to me, and my wife didn't like what I @#$&*$!* said.
Just take it easy and let him know, in an even tone, (for perhaps the umpteenth time) that you don't like it and it's vulgar and disrespctful). If he has to swear at all, he should stub his toe first.

i think he really needs to grow up. psychologist will tell you straightly that people who do this lack self esteem and are trying to compensate by getting attention. if you can build his self confidence with compliments, giving him task that he will succeed at, and gradually making them harder, he may abandon the practice. also you can point out that other people do not cuss every third word, and that it is not allowed or tolerated by the school system, prison system, at church, etc. and you may be able to get him to think about it by asking if you have offended him.
