yeah, i agree with everyone else. you'll never find any "real" spare parts at the hardware store or wal-mart where you purchased the mower. go to a real, honest to God lawnmower repair shop that somebody runs out of their garage. they'll have or be able to get the primer bulb for you.
DON"T run the mower without your air filter. mowers generate more airborne dust and dirt than you could imagine. it won't take very long for a mower to kill itself by breathing THAT junk!
best of luck.

Gas in the tank will pour out the broken bulb. Generic replacements are available at a small engine shop. Mowers will run without an air filter. But, the purpose for the filter is to keep dirt and dust from entering the carb.

Classic 3.5? then this is a diapragm style carb (carb bolted to tank)....they've been making these engines for alot longer then 20 years..... and they still have parts for them..... local hardware stores or lowes or places of such don't have a great selection and are not the place to get one, try and find a small engine shop in your phone book. The mower will run without the air filter...... but you'll ingest dirt and kill it, the mower will not run without a primer bulb. If it is a 3.5 classic or even a horizontal shaft....... what I do is switch em over to the newer style plastic carb and the tank to go with it anyway...... they run alot better on them, parts are widely available and its not too much $$ to spend doing it..... 20 years is not the end of its life..... don't junk it.

http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/ for parts, primer bulb isn't that exotic, see if you have any friends down at the hardware store that can help you find something that can be used to replace it. Primer bulb's just a plastic flexible bulb, chances are good that you'll find something close to the right size...
