Yes it does, but the person has to make a commitment to complete the course. I have a friend, who had a really bad anger problem, and would not get help. He finally got into a really bad altercation, and the judge ordered him into Anger Management. He resisted it, but went because he did not want to go to jail. After a couple of sessions, he admitted he had a problem, and dug into the courses. He has not been in trouble because of his anger since then, and it has been at least 10 years. He is the same person, but he handles things better now, and we aren't afraid to take him places anymore.

yes, i do think you should see a counsellor. it's great that you are able to acknowledge you went too far and your anger took control, but now i think you should do something to stop this happening again. seeing a counsellor also shows your girlfriend that you mean it when you tell her you won't let it happen again, actions speak louder than words and seeking help shows her that you're serious about your promises and that will definitely reassure her. so i suggest you google anger management counsellors in your area and make an appointment. if you're not sure what you're looking for you can go see your gp and they will be able to recommend someone. in the mean time perhaps google anger management strategies to help you start finding ways to control your anger.

It will only help if you yourself recognize that you have a problem (as oppose to someone telling you that you do) and you want to change your behavior. No amount of counselling can help you unless you are willing and able. Start off by asking yourself if you have a problem and do you want to cleanse yourself of your anger. Are you willing to do what it takes?

Don't know. My husband "counsels" me on my road rage all the time. I have ZERO tolerance for idiots and jerks on the road who compromise the safety of my family.

Yes, I saw a Christian counselor for anger and bitterness I struggled towards people and it helped tremendously.

It can. Being a Vietnam Veteran, with PTSD and traffic anger issues, my VA councilor has been a big help to me.
