Find the manufacturer and find the drivers on their site.

Drivers.com is a great source for drivers also.

If its a build in sound card then find the board manufacturer and find the matching sound cards (there maybe more than one)

If its a pre-built system like Compaq and that like, you can ussually download drivers on their site.

most navigation fall under Support then Drivers

First you must find out the type of sound device you have!
Go to "Start", then Programs, then to Control Panel. Once in Control Panel double click the "System" icon. Then click on the Hardware Tab, then click on the Device Manager Tab. Scroll down and look for the small Plus Sign next to the "Sound and Video, Game Controller" . There you will see what type of sound device that you have. Now go to this Website "driverseach.com" and you'll find the driver there by looking for the devices model. Remember, you must have the correct device type to download before your sound card will function-use the correct brand name or the model type. Download to Desktop so you can find it easy. Double click the download and install the sound device driver, restart the computer and TA-DA you should now have sound.

If you have Windows XP you can also, go to Windows Update. If you do a "Custom" update, you can see the hardware updates. Most of the time you'll find the driver your missing. It doesn't always work, but out of the last few boxes I've upgraded, it's found every driver needed. But the previous post is a sure fire way, this is just a quick and dirty way to try to fix it. Good luck.

Somebody erased the S. What did they erase? If it was the drivers for the sound card - reload them. If you do not know what sound card you have, open the case and take a look.

in case you're fortunate you may merely open the Recycle bin on your laptop and fix the deleted drivers. in the adventure that they don't seem there then you absolutely can both use the CD / Floppy disks that got here with your sound card and re-installation them from that, or bypass to the internet web site of the producer of your Sound Card and receive and installation the drivers from there. be conscious: in case you pc makes use of a onboard sound chip (i.e the sounds are outfitted into the Motherboard itself, then goto the internet web site of the producer of the motherboard.
