Depends on location, length, and how deep. Some you may be able to just wheel out. That would be the cheapest fix.

Toothpaste? Hmm i have never heard of that. How about Meguiar's ScratchX? If that's a larger scratch purchase a $10 bottle of contact up paint from the dealership. the recent ones have a pen on one end which makes it effective for scratches.
