Much is known about the psychology of negotiating and power. The West has many trained professionals to deal with issues before they become crises. My concern is that war is a money-maker and that there is little concern to avoid it. Rather, government leaders wish to provoke wars for money and power. What can citizens do to stop or at least mitigate this tendency?

Unfortunately being "nice" doesn't work when money and power are in the picture...

Be grateful you're in a country that uses force to help better other nations, while protecting our valuable freedoms, AND also allowing you to make such comments! There are governments out there that would murder you're whole family for speaking against them.

Yes, all of what you say is true. However, there are justifiable reasons for war. The leaders that we elected into office are the ones who make those tough choices. Our responsibilities as common citizens are to be as supportive as possible to the men and women we put into office, and to "voice our opinions" in the right way when we think something funny is going on. This is a very hard question to ask. But if there is one thing I know, we better make darn sure we are supporting the men and women who are serving our country - no matter what we happen to think about a particular war!

Unfortunatley citizens can't do anything to stop it, we are forced to play our role as the heart of the country and speak out against the wars. You are right about war being a money-maker, for a dominating power like ourselves having a war is good for the economy, it generates jobs and product demand.

Wars are fought for money and power, so aslong as a nation seeks money and power, they will seek war. The only real solution is not to seek power, a country like Switerzland is a good example of seeking a rich economy without the power. The US is forced because of its size and abundance of natural resouces to be a world power, and if we don't act powerful, then we seem weak. So obvioulsy I don't like war, but I wouldn't want our country to seem weak.

.....sooooo, its not the actual governments fault that they seem war crazy, its the postion in which the country is placed in the world. Killed or be killed, I would rather be doing the killing

I doubt governments start wars to generate revenue. They might start a war to gain land. Wars do solve some problems, World War II for example. The best defense is a good offense. Governments that have no mililtary will be taken over by ones that do.

people can stop being lazy and use their power to vote and impeach. they can learn their rights as citizens of a democracy. we're not in a dictatorship and we don't have to go along with everything the gov't says, thats why the people are the rulers of this country, people let the gov't tell them what to do instead of it being the other way around...

Would you prefer we surrender to terrorism and let them kill us instead of using the big bad millitary that frightens you?
The terrorists hate us because we do not do what they say and believe as they do.They won't negotiate in good faith and will simply look for any excuse to commit murder.
