The process is called renaming. Call SBC to temporarily suspend your master account and log in to your yahoo account using your sbc log in name and pw. You should see the prompt that will ask you to transfer info. Just follow the instructions.

setup a new yahoo account and send those other emails to it before you disconnect the dsl service.

I was told if you close your sbc account and you had already merged the two accounts that you couldn't go back. I would be interested to know if it is possible. I read in one of these where you could go to "My account" and somewhere in there it says "unmerge accounts.".....I haven't seen it but I will look again.

Good Luck

Okay, I found this in "My Account"
What happens to my existing Yahoo! ID after my service is disconnected or canceled?
For All Applications, All Operating Systems, and All Domains

If you merged your Yahoo! ID with your SBC Yahoo! Member ID:

After canceling your DSL service, you will receive complimentary Dial service for 60 days, which includes full access to your SBC Yahoo! account. If you attempt to log into the Yahoo! network (sbc.yahoo.com) using your Yahoo! ID and password after 60 days, you will be given the option to unmerge your Yahoo! ID. If after 100 days you have not unmerged your Yahoo! ID, it will automatically be unmerged.

If you did not merge your Yahoo! and SBC Yahoo! Member IDs:

After canceling your DSL service, you will receive complimentary Dial service for 60 days, which includes full access to your SBC Yahoo! account. If you attempt to log into the Yahoo! network (sbc.yahoo.com) using your Yahoo! ID and password after 60 days, you will be given the option to create a new Yahoo! ID and transfer your SBC Yahoo! Member ID's data and preferences to it. After 100 days, the data and preferences from your SBC Yahoo! Member ID will be deleted.

Please note:

If you unmerge your master SBC Yahoo! Member ID from a Yahoo! ID or transfer data and preferences from your master SBC Yahoo! Member ID to a new free Yahoo! ID before you unmerge or transfer data from your SBC Yahoo! sub accounts, then:

Any merged sub accounts will be automatically unmerged.
Any sub accounts that are not merged with a Yahoo! ID will lose their data and preferences.
Once you unmerge a Yahoo! ID from an SBC Yahoo! Member ID or transfer the data and preferences from your SBC Yahoo! Member ID to a new Yahoo! ID, you will not be able to remerge your Yahoo! ID with an SBC Yahoo! Member ID.
