what does it mean when you try to do ctrl, alt, delete and it says that your task manager has been disabled?

I'm referring to my own personal computer. i am the system adminstrator and i don't remember disabling the task manager. PLEASE HELP. Sometimes when my computer freezes i need to do ctrl, alt, delete to close a program.

You probably have a virus or two interfering with it. You may need to clean up your computer or go as far as reloading your operating system.

It means exactly what it says, that Task Manager is disabled.

As one of the other posters suggested you should verify that your machine is free of "pests". Without going into too much detail you should make sure your anti-virus software is up to date, run a full anti-virus scan, and run a check for other malware using something like Windows Defender, Ad-Aware AND SpyBot, et cetera.

What you obviously want to know is why this happened. If you are the only person with access to your machine and know for a 100% fact that you did not change the setting, it is worth investigating.

If the checkout above does not turn up anything you should change your password on your machine to ensure no one is accessing your machine and changing settings. I have used the policy editor (locally) to modify security settings for myself, but have never seen a situation where these settings (like disabling task manager) happened on their own.

when you use ctrl, alt, delete it may remove the task you are seeking but it damages your mother board. If it freezes shut it down. Check to see if you have any adware, spyware or virus'. Then check into getting more memory. More memory helps stop the lockups. Make sure you defragment regular and you do a disc cleanup regular.

1) If My Computer is on the desktop, double click it to access Windows folder. Find explorer.exe and run it.

2) In Windows 200/XP, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and choose Task Manager. On the Application Tab, click New Task button, type 'Explorer.exe' and hit OK.

In Windows 9x/Me, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to start Task Manager, click Run Application on the File menu, and then type 'Explorer.exe' and click OK.

Edit: dont mess with Gpedit or regedit, because you can mess up your computer more.

You can find the Task Manager in windows system 32 folder. Just scroll down until you see it the try to open it. Other than that, I guess you will have to reinstall your OS. It would be best if you did. If you don't want to reinstall your OS You could try several Anti malware programs to try and save you. I recommend do all your scanning in safe mode. Good Luck

RESOLUTION


1. Verity that the "Local Group Policy" or "Domain Group Policy" doesn’t block you from using

"Task Manager".

1.1 "Local Group Policy"

a. Go to "Start" -> "Run" -> Write "Gpedit.msc" and press on "Enter" button.

b. Navigate to "User Configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "System" -> "Ctrl+Alt+Del Options"

c. In the right side of the screen verity that "Remove Task Manager"" option set to "Disable" or "Not Configured".

d. Close "Gpedit.msc" MMC.

e. Go to "Start" -> "Run" -> Write "gpupdate /force" and press on "Enter" button.

a. Contact you local IT support team.


2. Verity correct registry settings::

a. Go to "Start" -> "Run" -> Write "regedit" and press on "Enter" button.

Its not a virus, it is POLICY EDITED. RIGHT CLICK ON THE TASK BAR does it give you the same message when you choose task manager?

you may need to log on you computer in admin mode you can do this when you start up press the f8 key and select safemode you will find the admin username there once loaded you will need to look at the admin tools there is something in there that controls what users can do on your computer. thats my knowledge on the subject
