There are many different answers...Some people bring the water to a boil then remove from the burner and cover the pan for over 20 minutes. I bring the water to a boil and turn it down just enough so it doesn't boil over. Cook for 10 or 11 minutes. then immediately run under cold water to stop cooking process...this will also help when trying to peal the egg

Place the egg(s) in the cold water in the pan. Turn on the heat. Set your timer to 6-8 minutes depending if you want soft or hard boiled eggs. When timer goes off remove pan from heat. Pour out water and immediately bath the eggs in cold water for 1-2 minutes. This will make it easier to peel them.

5 minutes.

My mom always taught me to put the egg in when the water was cold, bring the water to a boil with the egg in it, boil for 5 minutes, then turn the heat off and leave the egg in until the water cools.

Like 8 minutes. Wait till water is boiling hard then place the egg(s) in carefully and eight minutes later take them out.

where i work we fill the pot with cold water(w/the eggs in it too) just enuff to cover the eggs, turn on the burner on hi,when the water comes to a rolling boil turn them off,and just let them sit in the hot water for 20 miniutes exactly, after that run cold water over the eggs till your able to handle them..they peel like butter and they are perfect..the yolk wont turn green on the outside either if you do it this way.sounds like a long process but when you do it once its like riding a bike.these arent soft boiled just safe and cooked
