I got to the point where I could connect my dell laptop to my netgear router, but it keeps telling me i need a network key(WPE or WPA key). Where would I get the network key information from?

Your administrator put up a WEP encryption on your network. You need a key code to connect to it. Ask your admin for the key, or login into the router settings as an admin and check to see what you put they key as.

The wireless network adapter in your computer might support the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security protocol. WPA provides stronger encryption than WEP. With WPA, the network keys on networked computers and devices are automatically changed and then authenticated regularly, which provides greater security than WEP.
To use WPA, your wireless network adapter must support it. To find out if you can use WPA on your wireless network, check the manufacturer's Web site for information about your device. The manufacturer might have software or a driver that you can download and install.

when you set up your wireless network, you made a key (so that intruders can't get onto your network). to get rid of it, type in your IP address into a browser, and change your settings so that you don't have a WPA or WEP key. You can usually go to "wireless settings", or "advanced settings", some thing along those lines, and get rid of it.
If you didn't set it up, ask the person who set up your wireless connection for the key.

If you bought the router brand new it shouldn't have a WEP key set. If you bought the router used then you need to reset the settings. They is usually a reset button on the back of the router

you have to log into the router itself, IP address would be something like 192.168.0.1, Try and consulting your manual for exact instructions on how to log into the router, You will most likely need an password, and unless you have changed it then the manual will have the defaults for u to log in. Hope this helps
