If your not close to your mother I can understand your fear of telling her. Close Mother's and daughter's have a simple solution by just mentioning it. She will understand if you put maxi pads on the grocery list. Or you can mention that you were talking to some friends and they think you are on your period. Of course, don't wait 3 days.

Sweetie it is unfortunate your mom did not talk to you about it first. Either did my mom and when I started me was like… “geeze now what?”. I had many questions. My sister and cousin helped to answer. Just tell her. Hopefully you will have great dialoge. You will not know until you do. Do not be shy, be straight foreword.
Something like:
I have started my menstrual cycle.
Mom I am on my period.
It’s that time of the month!
Or if you want to be somewhat creative:
“Could you get enough pads for two (adding yourself)?”
“I need Midol and tads”
“Aunt Flo came to visit, and I did not invite her.”
Good luck!

Haha...aw..Ok, so when I got mine, I was too nervous to tell her for a whole day. So the next morning I got a shower and got dressed to go to school. And while I was standing in her bathroom, she was still half asleep, I was like.."hey. I got my period yesterday." but i didn't look over cuz I was soo nervous. So my mom got all excited and went out and bought me a card and present that day when I was at school. Haha! It really wasn't a big deal after I finally got it out. Lol...don't worry about it, just say it.

Try to have more trust in your mom. Ask her for help. She was there once herself. You are putting to much pressure on yourself. It will be alright and know that it is a normal natural thing. And, if it helps go ahead and write her a note and tell her your embarrassed. You can do this and know that you are not alone.
Good Luck!

Why do we all get so nervous when its time to tell out mom that we finally started our period. We act like she isnt going to love us anymore or think of us an unusual human being. Its totally normal and believe it or not, at one point, your mom had to tell her mom the same thing. I was too nervous to tell my mom but I knew I had to. I just called her at work and let her know that I had become a woman today. She didnt understand at first but after telling her the same thing over and over she finally just said to me "Nicole, did you start your period?" Gee, that was easy I thought. So, just call her up or walk over to her and let her know. Im sure she knows its about time for you to start and shes just waiting for you to come to her. Good luck! And dont be ashamed to tell her - ITS NORMAL!

well if you rather she initiate the convo. then i suggest letting a pad or tampon "fall" out of your bag in front of her. or try leaving leaving one out on your bed before you leave for school so that when you get home she'll already have what she wants to tell you ready.

Just go to her and tell her. She knows that eventually you have to start and since she had you, she has one too. It's nothing to be embarrassed about, we all (women) get it. It's just another part of growing up.

The best thing to do might be to just be upfront with her about it. It's not like she won't have any experience in this area, so she'll understand.

Same way you said it to us. She's a woman I think she can handle it. What are you afraid of I'm sure all your friends know how did you tell them?
