someone who is geeky

Nerds are a unique breed, being anything from the genius prodigies to just socially awkward, average people. Describing a nerd is difficult. We have the "quintessential nerd" who is skinny, wears glasses, parts his hair, has bad acne, likes computers, is smart and wears button-up shirts and pocket protectors. However, nowadays, being a nerd can be a positive thing once you're out of the false society that is public school. I was a nerd in school, badly bullied, but I graduated college in three years, and now I make over $50k at 21 years old. I never dressed like a nerd, but I was socially backward and too skinny. I've put on weight and matured, so I've come a long way. I think being a nerd is good if you want to succeed. Nerds know how the real world works, not how to excel in popularity contests.

For those of you who think that you can justify your laziness and lack of brains by saying that nerds are ugly, socially inept or anything then you are dead wrong. There is a new breed emerging. Im going to UPenn, an Ivy League Uni, and I never considered myself a nerd nor have I ever looked like what you stereotype us as. All of the people I've met instead, are actually more like super-beings :D. They are all hot, incredibly perspicacious and appreciate academia. :D

If I understand common use correctly:

--A geek is someone who knows a lot, either about one specialized thing or is a jack-of-all trades intellectually. A brain, a smart person...

--A nerd is someone more obsessive in their hunger for knowledge, and as someone mentioned, less prone to fits of physical activity, or for that matter, of being versatile or flexible....

--A dork is someone who has LOTS of knowledge, nearly all of it obscure or trivial and who is proud of the fact that he/she doesn't appear to have a lot of a life outside their "fetish" or speciality base.

Or, to put it in Star Trek fan-base terms:

A geek is a Trekker--someone who knows about Star Trek, watches it like any other TV show, and that is about it.

A nerd is a Trekkist--someone who has been to a con or two, studies the show, knows the casts from all the different shows and can sort them out in historical order. But the devotion stops with the knowledge, they don't go overboard to the point of costume-playing with the Vulcan Ears....

A dork in this case is a Trekkie--knowledgable *and* a fanatic, these are the folks who come dressed as Klingons, butt-faces and all and speaking in fluent hack, cough, and wheeze dialects of same. ;)

Hope this helps.

Usually spotty, although it's not a requirement.
Nose in a book, constantly & at the first opportunity proceed to tell you the plot/idea/theory.
Clothes were trendy, 10 years ago, in Bulgaria.
Glasses (although I've seen ones without) of the plainest/ugliest sort in brown/black.
& blush very very easily.

My Bro's a computer Nerd, he's lovely Mr Nice guy & inoffensive.
He's the kindest & politest perosn I know, would give his last £ away to some1 who needed it more than him.
& he's handy when my computer louses up 2!

some one whose social skill fall short of the norm, whose desire to to avoid social awkardness is over shadowed by the confidence that comes with mental astuteness. Bottom line conforming and being accepted by people who they hold in the lowest of regards falls beneath their self importance
