I have this really stressful job. I want to quit, but can't do so very easily. It's a very fast paced, and requires skills way above my head. It is working with computers and internet support lines for helping people with problems. You have to be one of those major computer people that knows everything about them. I do not have this knowledge, and I am in such a way becuase I have to get help with every caller. I even made this company lose some customers because of my ignorance! The only reason I was hired is becuase I have a relative that works here, and so I definately do not meet the requirements. Should I call back later (becuase I can not take it any longer) and lie to get out of this job? I can not stand it. I feel like punching my fist through this monitor. What should I do and still seem polite?

I think that you should be honest with yourself and with your company.

Go to your boss and explain that you don't think that you are a match for the job. Let your boss know, honestly that you are really stressed out in the current position and ask if there is possibly another position that you could be moved too that would be a better fit.

I think that if I was the boss and someone came to me and was honest, that I would try and find them another position within the company that was a better fit for them.

Good luck with whatever you decide, but I think you should try talking to your boss [not the relative] about possibly getting moved off the telephones and into another position for the job. It shows that you care about the company, you want to work, and that you can be honest when something is above your head.

I think you should respectfully quit.

You got the job due to nepotism, which is not good to begin with. Secondly, you are not only causing yourself stress and aggravation that you don't need, but you are causing the company REAL financial harm! Plus you are doing the callers a disservice by not being able to help them the way they expect (and deserve) to be helped.

This is not a personal criticism of you or your abilities, because I myself would have NO CLUE how to do the job you're describing. This is simply an encouragement to stop the "charade" of trying to do a job that is obviously not right for you, because in staying at the job, you're harming three entities: the company, the customers, and your own sanity!

Good luck! :) I trust you will do the right thing....

Wow what a coincidence. I had the same problem. I am in support too. I got a high paying job (compared with my friends) maybe that's why my boss is expecting much from me. My problem is don't know how to do some of them. What am I doing is search for a new job. Good luck man . I hope we find a new job before we all get starved.

Don't stress! If you have internet access at your job then use it! When I worked at IBM with my first support job I was quite "green" too. I used GOOGLE to find a LOT of my answers. You could also study the products that you are supporting. Educate yourself so you will be able to answer questions. It will take a little time but you can get it if you try.

Just tell them you are not interested and found a better oppurtunity elsewhere. But what if they counter-offer? hahaha....deal with it I guess....But people change careers a lot...chances are you wont even be there for a long time. Also chances are the job will always be there if a relative works there.

its crucial! though i would never suggest you to jump from one job to another but still i strongly believe tht you should be passionate abt ur work , you must enjoy ur work. like i just love my work (my home based ebusiness) and i no more have to get stressed . you must give your self a break! you deserve it!
