Groping, when used in a sexual form, is touching another person in an aggressively sexual way. Buttocks, thighs and breasts are often groped. When done without permission or against the will of another person, this can be considered a form of sexual abuse.

Grope is grabbing aimlessly. If you're reaching beneath a car trying to find that bolt and are feeling around..that is "groping".
I'm almost afraid to ask what context this was used in and thus your questioning of the definition.

It really depends on HOW it's used. If someone "gropes" you, it usually means they touched you in an inappropriate way and usually refers to unwanted touching. If you are "groping" for ideas, it means you are desparately coming up with ideas or searching for them (but not having much luck). It really depends on how and where the word is used.

In one context, to grope means to touch another person in a selfish desire for physical gratification without the person's permission or full participation.
In another context, it means to reach out blindly.

You mean no one has grabbed you were you least expected to be grabbed! That is what to be groped means as far as i knew.
