It can't work.

You can not reward apathy.. if you are given everything, and dont need to work hard to get ahead.. then you wont. If you dont work hard then the society does not move forward, if society doesn't move forward, then the society crumbles.........

Capitalism is the light

Of course communism has existed. It actually traces it's roots all the way to Plato. Before the world was dominated by misogynist religions (i.e. Christianity, Islam and Judaism) we didn't have a class system, otherwise a form of capitalism. At that time religions with woman deities existed (now known as the pagan religions) which endorsed an eqalitarian society, the main root of communism. She's also wrong about a classless society being impossible. Every empire/capitalist society has fallen at one time or another. There's a point in time when the greedy become some greedy they've screwed up to the point that being greedy will be impossible for them. Not only is a classless society about ethical treatment, but it's also about survival. A class system breeds anger, envy, murder, rape and etc. If this continues humans will not exist and the will to survive is the most basic instinct we all share. Also, in a classless society there's more self reliance. Instead of oppressing classes of people in order for them to work for the greedy, people naturally became self reliant.

I've always loved the basic concept behind communism and have thought it's a shame that it really can't work- or at least hasn't.

Someone asked the question- would you take a pill to eliminate greed?

Well, that would be one way to make communism work. It's only because so many people are greedy that they can't accept it. Capitalism breeds greed. If people really cared about others, and were willing to do what was needed to make it work- like do their best to contribute to society without having to be rewarded in a material way (I find it rewarding to see others do well and know that everyone gets to eat and everyone has a home.. but then that's me)- then communism would work.

True social communism political analysts feel only succeeded in one place only. And i was shocked to find out. The Israeli Jewish Kibbutz! Strange but if ya look it up you'll see. Its like constructive, co-operative anarchy where individual wisdom makes the social machinery run smoothly. If that could be achieved globally brilliant. Also, see Daniel Quinn's book "Beyond Civilization" for a real glimpse of socialist/communist Utopia.

The world knows, now, that some form of a market driven economy is the engine that makes society work in terms of economic motivation.
However, the world also knows that unregulated market driven economies are self-destructive.
The world knows that the ability to resolve and live with contradictions is a sign of the sanity.
And learning to live with others successfully requires sanity.
And we know that sanity requires a sense of connectedness and caring between human beings, that guides our behavior.

Why not ask the leaders of the Soviet Union? Wait, as a communist government they collapsed under President Reagan and dissolved under President Bush. Communism just doesn't work

People have been asking that question for hundreds of years.
The fact is though, that communism does NOT work. It never has. It is an ideal that is only held onto by idealists who are not interested in actual facts. Each time they say that it will work this time. But it just never does.

Communism was tried at the outset of the EOE commission. Communists tried to recruit African Americans to join the party and move to Africa. We saw how successful that was.
