Commercials are for marketing... Just because the food looks good, doesn't mean it tastes good. Red Lobsters are HORRIBLE.
Consider this, I once organized a college trip to the zoo because I saw a commercial of the polar bears playing in the water and they looked so cute. Well, guess what??? We got to the zoo and it was NOTHING like the commercial. The Polar Bears didn't get in the water at ALL. So sad. commercials lie. (and polar bears don't swim unless its like 100 degrees out!!!)

Okay. Red Lobster is what it is. Its a chain, so it can't compete with hometown coastside seafood restaurants. Those are at the top of the list. Neither do they indiscrimantely batter everything with the same stuff and throw it to you from a little window--That's fast food. The bottom. Red Lobster gives landlocked people and wallet locked coastal people pretty good food for their money. If you want to stay safe, don't eat the shellfish unless you eat it pretty often anyways, and the chedar biscuits are good, but if you eat too many, you will not appreaciate the food that you ordered because you'll be too full for anything else except more cheese biscuits to taste good. On the other hand, if you want to be impressed and don't mind ordering something you may not have ever had, go ahead and look at their seasonal items or specials. Usually those are so short-timed that the limited supply ensures excellent quality.

Well, it's sort of true, but it all depends on how much experience you have with OTHER seafood restaurants. In and of itself, Red Lobster is not too bad, though the food is definitely not as good as the commercials (of course, that's true of just about anywhere). It's pretty good seafood when you have nothing else available to you. However, if you have ever tried other seafood places like McGrath's Fish House or some of the delicious places on the coasts, you will be disappointed in Red Lobster. All things considered, if you have seafood alternatives available to you, go somewhere else. But if Red Lobster is all you've got (like me here in the middle of Oklahoma) it's the only way to satisfy those seafood craves!

Red Lobster is ok for a chain. It's like the McDonald's of seafood - not the worst thing you'll ever taste but not exactly representative of the best food. If you really want good seafood, you have to be near the ocean and get the fresh stuff.

Personally I enjoy Seafood, especially when it's fresh. I do NOT find that at Red Lobster, I surely tell when something has been frozen for a while especially, the fishier the taste, the older it is. I have noticed that with their Lobster, which is supposedly from their tanks......uh huh, sure.
Shrimp is not that bad, well depends which kind you get, the scampi is too greasy. I do agree that cheesebread is rather yummy, but quite fattening too. I know most of us don't go out to eat to worry about calories, but we should! Especially in those gigantic portions.
If you want good seafood restaurants, go to a place that is NOT a chain ( not Sizzler either) and get something that might be pricier, but you sure get what you pay for.

Some of the food is great, while some stinks. I have been to Red Lobster about 6 times & 1/2 the time the food was just O.K. Nothing to rave about. The cheddar bay biscuits are ALWAYS good.

Red Lobster is to seafood as Olive Garden is to Italian food. It's even the same company, but that's beside the point. It's better than Taco Bell is to Mexican Food, but it's mall parking lot food - pure and simple.

In Boston, I think it would be criminal to walk into a Red Lobster (you do realize you posted this question under Dining Out-Boston). Red Lobster is pure grease (if you go for the fried stuff) or pure cardboard, if you order any of the grilled or baked stuff. Their food is deliberately bland in order to appeal to the greatest number of Americans. The stuff is garbage but yeah, in the commercials it sure does make your mouth water. I'm in Dallas, Tx, landlocked and in the state of Texas and I would be insulted if someone suggested I join them for dinner at Red Lobster.

I Personally think its very good especially their biscuits they are garlic cheddar. If you ever have a chance to eat at one you should my favorite is the shrimp scampi and the lobster Alfredo. Also for some reason the Cesar salad they serve with the meals is the best I have had anywhere maybe its the combination with the biscuits....

The biscuits they bring out before the meal are the best part. They are awesome!!! I personally do not like seafood that much, so I ordered chicken. What I got was very good. :) Hope that helps!
