You're only fat if you think you're fat. If you're happey the way you are now then don't do anything about it. People should just live there lives happy and not cair what other people think about them.

If you don't like that answer go see a doctor and ask him what he thinks.

I am so sorry that you have to deal with a saddistic mother... I had one of them myself and they are horrible. AT 5'6" you need to know your bone structure for sure to know where your range should be, but for medium and large frames, you are actually a little under for some weight/height tables. The typical one I found (listed below) says you are 9 pounds UNDER weight for 17-20 year olds. The second one I listed below shows you on the small end of a medium frame for your height (it starts at 130 lbs. and goes to 144). If you have a large frame, you are 8 lbs under weight by this chart. Since you are still growing, I would not advise you to try to lose or diet AT ALL. Until you stop growing, between 16-18 years, this could stunt your growth (it did me). You can change to healthier eating habits, cut down on sugar, drink more water and fresh juices and milk and add more fruits and veggies to your REGULAR EATING. Exercise to trim up if you need to or want to feel better and get some great muscle tone, but THAT is healthy and dieting to lose weight is NOT because your diet is actually how you eat all the time. But I DO NOT advise any kind of weight-loss diet, especially in light of you sounding a little light for your height and age. THERE IS NO TRUTH TO THIS IDEA THAT YOU ARE FAT... IT'S ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! If you were my daughter, I would NEVER say that, and that's because #1 it's ridiculous and #2 there are positive ways to deal with it and negative ones, and she has chosen a negative one. The worst part is that she's wrong, as you can see by the charts. I have an idea.... print the second chart, highlight your height and weight range and leave it where she and your sister will see it. Talk to your doctor in private about the WHOLE situation. They can help you find out your frame so that you know exactly where you stand. Good luck and HUGS!

Becca, at 15 you are right in the middle of puberty. For girls, your fat patterns move around... you get more fat in your breasts and around your hips. This is all fancy stuff that happens because it protects you for when you have a baby. What your mom may be seeing is your body changing and she may be mistaking it for you geing "overweight." The most accurate way for you to see whether you are overweight is by using the Body Mass Index (BMI). There is a BMI chart you can look at or you can go to http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ and enter in the info it asks for. Judging by that you are in a very healthy weight range. Unless you have gained a whole lot of weight over the past fewweeks or months, you are very healthy as far as your weight goes. At 15, the last thing you want to do is lose weight by crash dieting or starving yourself. If you are still concerned, you should definitely go see your doctor and then he or she could explain it all to you a bit more clearly.

You are not fat. You are within a healthy weight range. 15 is also an awkward age for teenagers, particularly girls. You fill out and get curves in places you never had them. It sounds like you are fine to me. If you are worried, try to get a bit more exercise and watch what kinds of foods you eat and portion sizes. Honestly, unless your doctor says something, I wouldn't be too concerned. People have such a distored idea of what a women should look like nowadays-you should be curvy and healthy, not look like a strung out stick figure. And remember to take your own advice....love the skin you're in!
BTW-your BMI (body mass index) is only 21.3 a normal weight. You aren't overweight until your BMI is 25, don't worry!

That is overweight by some standards but it really isn't too much. If you feel comfortable then do nothing. If you feel you are overweight then do something about it. That wasn't nice of your mom to do that. She should have spoken to you directly. You are 15 and old enough to make your own choice on what you want to do. Stick by what you believe. Good Luck.

You are at a normal weight for someone your height with a small build. (If you are broad-shouldered, you are actually underweight.) It is unfortunate that mothers say things like that; mine did when I was younger. I was thin according to the regular doctor's measurements, but my mother is overweight and tried to begin early in making me conscious of my weight. She was and is afraid that I will become very much overweight and will have health problems; diabetes and high blood pressure and prevalent in our family.

It is quite possible that she is doing the same thing, but it has a devastating effect on someone no matter their age. You have my sympathy, but try to understand your mother's fears.

thats now not chubby! oh jeez...i am 14, five"five and weigh 132. Ok, now THAT indicates possibly i'm chubby... besides, you're so much surely now not chubby, and obvs an usual wieght in your peak. Yeah, she would had been skinnier while she was once more youthful, however that was once her, and you're now not your mum. So what if she was once skinny? that was once her, and also you most likely have another physically constitution to her. Just considering she is your mom doesnt imply you've matching our bodies.

I am 5'6" and when I weighed 135 pounds I was very thin. You have a good attitude, you should keep it and listen to yourself. As far as your mother goes, some moms are overly critical. Partly because they see themselves in you and they are overly crititical of themselves. Forgive her, she cares about you. There's also a chance that your sister misunderstood what your mom was saying.

you do not sound overweight to me at all. You sound perfectly normal. chances are you could be big-boned, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. You may never be as skinny as Nicole richie or paris hilton, but you would have a body type more like christie brinkley. She has a great, toned body. she is no anorexic stick, and she looks healthy, which to me is the most beautiful way to be.

Well I would lose the weight for myself, not for my mom. I have seen and heard other mothers tell especially girls to lose weight. So don't feel bad. If you are happy then don't worry about it. If you want to know for sure go see your doctor he or she will tell you if you are over weight based on your height and current weight. Take care ......
