Are there any password jumpers on the motherboard? There are usually cmos jumpers, but sometimes there are password enabling/disabling jumpers as well. Check with the board manufacturer to see a board layout, showing these pins. They also tell you how to clear the password using this jumper.

I have encountered several different ways in which a hard drive has been password protected. Sometimes you just need to put the hard drive into another machine as a slave if you need to back anything up off of it, or you just need to repartition the HD and and format it. Another way I have seen, and to me has been more common, you still won't be able to access the data if you do this. The only way I have ever been able to remove this, and it was not always worked, was by connecting the hard drive to a hard drive tester, they usually will bypass any protection on the hard drive and low-level completely wipe the hard drive. Hard drive testers such as these are hard to come by and cost several thousand dollars, so this is rarely an option.

There is no easy way to unlock a password protected hard drive. I spent hours researching this issue, as we sometime buy laptops that have this problem. You could try contacting the manufacturer and it is possible they might help you (long shot).

Only sure way I know to get the password unlocked is contact someone like Password Crackers, Inc. and spend $100 or OnTrack might be able to help you.

If it is password protected to the point where it is encrypted as well your only choice is to reformat and reload everything. If it is not encrypted you can take it out and put it in another machine as a secondary drive then run some password cracking programs.
