There are beautiful little towns all over that area. If you go up route 23, you have lots of little lake towns like Packanack. The prices of homes and styles can range all over the place so get a good real estate person and tell them what you are looking for.

Lots of arts and crafts cottage style homes built in the 40s and 50s scattered all over. Lots of upgrading has happened in the past 15 years. Also newly built places are stunning but pricy.

The taxes are your killer. Really incredibly high - some of the highest in the nation in Northern Jersey. SO be very aware of that when buying.

Renting might be a great option - in places like Morristown and Madison - in order for you to check out the area before you commit.

I grew up in the area. Nice suburban area and very close to New York City. Those communities have been around a long time so there are a lot of older better quality houses than newer areas.

I have lived in Morristown, Netcong and Maplewood, NJ. I wouldn't go back if you paid me.

All I know is that Upper Montclair is absolutely gorgeous.
