If the desktop has an AGP bus, then an ATI 8500PRO or Nvidia 6800. Verto still makes some high end NVidia AGP video cards, but their performance doesn't quite match PCI-Xpress cards.

If you have a PCI-Xpress bus, then you need a PCI-Xpress video card such as an ATI x800 (or better) or Nvidia PCI-X card (6800+).

bin the compaq and buy a proper pc
