The irony is - I live in the Ozarks and would like to visit South Padre Island..., but if I lived in South Padre Island, I'd want to visit the Ozarks. I love Texas by the way.

Come on down to the Ozarks! We have magnificent views. Personally - If I were you I would check out Petit Jean Mountain

I am familiar with Lake of the Ozarks. It's a good lake, but busy. A lot of the entertainment there is Hillbilly or Country based shows, old timey pictures and midway games, video games and go-carts and mini golf.

If you spend some money, water skiing is good, but you need to go at dawn before big boats make the water too choppy to enjoy it. If you start late, put the kids in a tube and let them pop out on the rollers.

If you want to see some semi-celebrities, go to Branson and get into as many shows as you can afford. The Lake of the Ozarks could have been Branson, but they didn't make it happen there, so Branson was born out of nothing in nowhere.

I don't know if you like the things I've listed. If you prefer the above to the sand and sun at Padre, enjoy!

Nani, it is a lot closer to the Ozarks and they are beautiful during spring, fall and summer. All the lakes and rivers, trees, etc are gorgeous. You will not be disappointed. Padre Island is fun but if you vary your vacations you will see different things and enjoy new environments. Besides it is a loooooong drive from North Texas to Corpus and on to Padre. If you go to the Ozarks try stopping in Hot Springs also, it is beautiful. Arkansas is a lovely state and here I am living in Arizona.

South Padre Island is close to Brownsville/Port Isabel. Galveston is close to Houston. Both are nice. If you are going to South Padre Island then you have the added attraction of visiting Matamoros, Mexico right across the border from Brownsville. Remember that you need a passport to get back into the States. Also, remember to never go over by yourself. Go to Garcia's for shopping and lunch. Amazing!

The Ozarks are so pretty! Totally worth a visit! Hot Springs, Ouachita National Forest and Eureka Spring are great. If you drive, hit Diamond Crater where you can search for diamonds.
