Under Philippine law a person must be born in the Philippines and one or both parents must be Filipinos depending on when the person is born. Tim Tebow was born in the Philippines but both of his parents are American. therefore he is an American citizen not a Filipino or a dual national. The person that bet that he is not Filipino wins the bet.

It dates back to the days when the Spaniards ruled in that country. The Spanish were kicked out in the Spanish-American war in 1898. Spanish was the language used and to this day many "Filipinos" still speak the language of their former colonizers.

There ARE other cultures and languages out there ! Oh my, really ? And they don't all speak American English ? Noooo. How come only people from my town have no accent ? Funny, I don't know. It's the same thing here. They all must be uneducated if they don't have our cultural background - afterall, there was no culture before us, was there ?

They are two different words. That is why the English language is so complicated to learn. Always remember, there is no rule when it comes to spelling names. This is a good example.

Th Philippines was a colony of Spain for 300+ years. And back then, Philippines was called "Filipinas", and the people living there were called "Filipinos". But when the Americans colonized the Philippines, the name of the country was changed from "Filipinas" to "Philippines". But the "Filipinos" stayed as is.
