It's a Samsung P-207, 1 year old, It was submerged in lake water for about 20 minutes, tried to dry it out, it worked for a while then the screen went black and I can't get it back on. I am lost with out it. I don't remember the guy at cingular telling me about any warranty that comes with the phone.

Unfortunately, it's lost. Even the slightest water damage could ruin your phone. As far as the warranty, Cingular only offers two different types of coverage:

1. The phone insurance that costs 3.99 a month and covers water damage, physical damage, if its lost or stolen, basically anything. If you have this, you report it to Cingular, and they send you another phone for $50 instead of shelling out anywhere form $100-300 for a new one.

2. The 1 year warranty that covers only defects. Water damage wouldn't be covered. Even if you try to trick them, they inspect the damaged phone you returned (and if they find any water damage, they charge you the full price of the phone, which would be around $175-210, depending on what area you live in).

So if you have insurance, option #1, then take advantage of that. If you don't, then you'll have to get another phone.

If you have to get another phone, there are 4 options:

1. If you are eligible for an upgrade, you can get a new phone at a good price in exchange for a 2 year contract.

2. If you're not eligible for an upgrade, they can offer you an "exception upgrade," which is basically an upgrade (a new 2 year contract for a brand new phone) except you won't get the phone as cheap as you would if you were eligible. If you choose this option, the phone will probably cost you anywhere from $20-$60 more than if yu were eligible for an upgrade. But it's better than buying another phone at the full price.

3. You could choose to purchase any phone at the full price, without having to sign any contract. You could do this at any time, whether you're eligible for an upgrade or not. But the downside is, this could be pretty pricey....

4. You could buy any Cingular phone from an outside source, as long as its compatible. eBay is probably your best bet. If you want a new phone, but don't want to sign a contract, these websites might have phones a little cheaper than Cingular will offer them to you:
mobileplanet.com
cellularconcepts.com
But keep in mind that any phone you buy from eBay, you have to make sure it's Cingular-compatible, NOT AT&T, these are 2 different things. And of course, it's at your own risk, but it'll work with your SIM card if it's a Cingular or an Unlocked phone.

Hope this was helpful....Any other questions, just pass me an email, Jesy031@yahoo.com.....good luck! Hope everything works out for you...

Unless you have insurance on your phone through your carrier, water damage is not covered under warranty. It may dry out in a couple of days, but sounds like it got a little too wet. You may just need to get a new one.

Beach bon fire. I'm jealous. I prefer not having a cell phone on. Too easy for people (read CIA) to keep track of my whereabouts.

Take it apart, and wash it with pure water (to get rid of dirt), then pure alcohol (rubbing alcohol or ethanol), to get rid of the water. Then dry it thoroughly. You may need to use a hair dryer. Then try to turn it on. If it still doesn't come on, try it with a new/borrowed battery.

Yikes! That's a long time to be submerged. It sounds like you need a replacement.

Afraid so. Cell phones and water don't mix a little bit.

Generally they are not water-friendly. I've not known of a phone yet that went diving that didn't end up being "laid to rest".

sorry but your phone is long dead.

go buy a new one. Go to your phone carrier store and ask them if they still have the new versions of it and if you can replace it or something
