Ernie and Bert share an apartment in the basement of 123 Sesame Street. Although they sleep in separate beds, this has led to the occasional suggestion that they are representations of gay lovers. This is denied by Sesame Workshop, the corporation that owns the show and the characters, but the idea is sufficiently widespread that it has been used as the basis of jokes by comedians or other TV shows.
The two appear together in numerous skits, forming a comic duo that is one of the centerpieces of the program. In the tradition of many movie comic duos, notably Abbott and Costello, the interplay forms between the mischievous innocent (Ernie) and the world-weary partner (Bert).

r No, Bert and Ernie are not gay nor have they ever been. They are friends who are ROOMMATES. They are PUPPETS and PUPPETS are not capable of that emotion.
When you have an arm up your BUTT and a hand in your throat I think you are really limited in what your sexual preference is.
HAVE YOU EVER HAD A ROOMMATE?
Did a sibling ever sleep in your room? Are you ... Gay? Of course not.
Bert & Ernie aka Frank Oz and Jim Hensen
more then likely had a similar friendship to them. Bert & Ernie got their names form 2 Its a wonderful Life characters bert, the cop
and Ernie the cab driver.
Are you such a looser you are going to pick on 2 characters partly responsible for bringing preschool children's education as
far as it has? Education that came so far Kindergarten had to revamp thier entire ciriculum.
You sound like Pat Robertson

Not in a 5 year olds eyes, only to us adults who have prejudices and hatred. Who cares if Bert and Ernie are gay... they have been together for a long time and seem to be faithful. Just like real gays... lets persecute those who are monogamous and committed.

They almost killed off Ernie; Jim Henson did the voice, so when Jim died, they considered letting Ernie die.
By the way, they're puppets, they ain't real, so who cares, does the cookie monster really eat cookies.
I don't know, maybe they are all gay - Big Bird, the Count, SNuffleupagus....
