Ambiguity is when one sentence or one situation has two meanings. Look at this sentence: It's too hot to eat. What does it mean? The food is too spicy? The weather is too hot? The food needs to cool down? The dog is so hot he can't even eat his food? It's easy to mis-understand ambiguity. So somebody can get their feelings hurt when that isn't what you meant to say.
